sacrsja.

can you get testors paints? they do the USCG red and orange.

red is AN509, and the Orange is AN508.

go to the testors site and search for coast guard and you will find them.

hope that helps,

Richard

Great! Can you quote an FS- or British Standard (BSS) number for this red? 'Signal' Red?

The oranges I find in the Tamiya and Humbrol ranges look 'oranger' rather than orange-red. Perhaps a mix is the best way to go. Maybe White Ensign have mixed this under their USA range of enamels.

Or I shall do the earlier white 'plane (I like the early bubble cockpit on the first example). All this for the D-558-1 straight-wing Skystreak.

The other kit from Anigrand that I have so far for this 'X'-project of mine is the D-588-3 'Skyflash', an unbuilt prototype/paper-project plane.
Found internet images of a wind-tunnel / demo model, which appears to be aluminium or grey in the black and white pic.
Anigrand suggests the 'Skyflash' was intended to be white (probably like the late X-15 flights). It also has a large ring at the rear, that looks like the 'plane might have been intended to be mounted atop an ICBM like the 'Dyna-soar'?

Skystreak on the go

Have begun my Anigrand resin D-558-1, cockpit is mostly painted, according to the NASA black and white pics: grey, aluminium, black panel.

Researching the actual 'plane, it looks like the undercarriage legs are red on the red 'plane, and white on the white 'plane; with at least the nose gear doors coloured likewise on the interior side. Could be that the only colour images are influenced by how a magazine cover is printed, however; with hand coloured seperate plates based upon monochrome or colour originals. If there was a D-558-1 in a museum... but it seems all of the early ones were destroyed.

By the way, how do I post photos in a post? Just copy and paste from my pictures folder? Thanks in advance.

Have got somewhere with my Anigrand D-558-1 Skystreak; mostly together, interior made and painted, outside undercoated, cleaned, painted.
Hope some pictures show below:

next step...

Skystreak next step; yellow undercoat for the orange-red finish using White Ensign's 'Signal Red.

Next step / coat

The Skystreak is now red, not sure how orange it'll look, but this photo was made in full natural sunlight on a white background... and, yes, I went with the red undercarriage legs, as the only black and white photos that show them in any detail show the same shade as the rest of the 'plane... interior of the undercarriage doors also appear to be red... perhaps when the red 'plane was painted white, the legs went the way of all the other components.
