| To the Founder of The Site Howdy Guys and Gals, Sorry about the attention getting title above, but this is a very important thread here and I wanted everyone to see it and I knew with a title like that, everyone would read it. There is a very important event happening in the very near future, within the next week or two as a matter of fact if I have figured right. Any guesses? Well, if you guessed that this site is about to gain its 5,000th member, you were right. Apparently we all just missed the 4 year anniversary of the site within the past month or two (not sure of the date myself, but maybe John can tell us). So anyway, the following Private messege was sent to John and I think we should all tell him thank you and wish him a happy anniversary and congratulations (in this thread) on this achievement (soon to be). ************************************************** ****** Howdy John, I know I am abit premature here by about a week or two, hopefully less, but I wanted to congratulate you on an upcoming milestone for the forum. While looking through the site, I happened to notice that the membership is now 4,906. Thats only 94 people from 5,000 which is a number I figure will be hit in the next week or two. I am not sure if any of the other members realize this or not, but with that many people, I know we must have members from every continent (more than likely, with Antartica the possible exception), and a great majority of the nations on the planet. I plan on starting a thread (this private messege will be in the thread) noting this milestone and was curious as to a few "facts". When did the site first come into being? What made you decide to create this forum? Who were its first members? (If you can remember) And lastly Did you ever think it would grow as much as it has through the years? The first records of the site on the net is from March, 22nd 2004 (See here: Internet Archive Wayback Machine ). On that date, there was 54 threads and 105 posts with 26 members. Compared to April 1st, 2008 which has/had 4,613 threads and 35,572 posts. Unfortunately I couldnt read any of the posts. But if you look at how the site has changed over time, its really remarkable the transformation it has gone through in the last four yrs. And by the way, according to the date listed above, congratulations on a 4 yr anniversary too Anyway, if you want to have abit of fun, look at the various dates in the above link to see all the changes the site has gone through. So, again, congratulations and happy anniversary John, you've done good . Greg aka GEEDUBBYA (GW) ************************************************** ****** So, for those of you who got snookered into reading this by its catchy title, why not go ahead and beat the rush, reply to this thread and wish John the best and congratulate him on a Job well done. It only takes a minute to do so. Have a good day, Greg aka GEEDUBBYA (GW) |

| I normally do a happy birthday scale-models thread on the 1st March every year but it looks like I forgot this year it doesn't seem like we are already a quarter of the way though the year, I usually like to thank all members for their contributions to the site and long may it continue, there has actually been 5855 members but for one reason or another I have deleted some.
When did the site first come into being? 1st March 2004
What made you decide to create this forum? I was just getting in to making train layouts and thought it would be good to create a forum for help as I knew nothing
Who were its first members? (If you can remember) The first member was me , followed by Adzam some more people that are no longer active and towards the end on the month Bluewavestudios and Duncan.
And lastly Did you ever think it would grow as much as it has through the years? I hoped it would, it's been a steady growth and hope it continues

| John will remember the times when things sometimes stick and then all of a sudden shoot upwards again ! the formulation of any forum is down to its members for which thankfully we have an amazing membership with such a wide diversity of interests,I think that diversity and the name itself was to become the secret ingredient in how Scale-models developed over the early months and years of its formulation,I also think that foresight and gritted determination has a lot to do with how things succeed and evolve,John is a modest fellow who has stuck with his intentions and it has worked well,we are also lucky to have someone like him at the helm so versed in computer technology,so here is to the next 5,000 member's ! who knows Scale-Models may reach that figure quicker than we all think ?

| Blimey,
It's hard to believe I have been here that long, where did the time go..?? I have enjoyed the site immensely since I joined and still do so. We have some great members on here and I enjoy their posts too regardless of what models they make.
I will certainly agree with Greg's and Barry's comments too.
So with that I will say Congratulations to John and long may the site continue !!
Regards.....Mark.

| One of the abiding things about this forum is the sense of old time values and friendliness. the atmosphere encourages learning and abillity. when i first found the site i was strictly into Tanks, tanks and more tanks...who would have thought i'd end up turning into a sailor (ooooo ducky *goes limp wristed for a second). Bunkerbarges thread on the uboats got me into submarines of all things! There are also some amazing characters on here too Geedub, Bunk, Onewing...too many to mention, but all posting great stuff (Greyheads se5a thread gets a special mention here).
I have noticed the amount of posts rising spectacularly recently, which can only be a good thing.
Well done John, for a great website and forum.
*feels abit guilty at not having donated for a while!!

In all the time I have been here that has never changed either. Everyone is welcome no matter what level they are in this Hobby.

| I have to aggree about the frienliness and "old time values"
be it a cul-de-sac in a street, a town, manhatten island. we are a community, act as one and should be dam proud of being a world wide one.
everyone is so friendly and always willing to help!
i just looked at my stats at the side of my post and looked at other peoples. its amazing to think i have been thanked 80 times. it just goes to show how nice people are on here.
Im very proud to be a part of this, even if it has been for only 2 years and 2 months. its been well worth it so far.
Thanks alot John for giving us such a great place to shar our common interest!
Richard

| Well it's just about all been said but I cannot over emphasis the differrent atmosphere we enjoy on this forum. I actually moderate on another site now as well and I remain a normal member of a couple more but nowhere do you get the same open and friendly atmosphere as you do here. All the others seem to spend some time squabbling amongst themselves and massaging a few ego's along the way.
Here it is simply an enjoyable place to be. We don't need to moderate much, we don't have a load of rules to adhere to and yet we all get along with such a positive and friendly open communication where every one has respect for each other. You really can't beatit.
So thanks to John for putting it together, I also think the software is one of the best around, but more importantly thanks to each and every member for making it what it is here.
The trouble is now we've got Tiger into U-Boats, what are we going to call him? Grey Wolf I guess!!
