May I introduce myself

I'm not normally formal, but I though I'd try to be a bit different.

Anyway, I'm returning to the hobby after far too many years (my wife thinks I'm regressing to my childhood). Like a number of you I bought the odd Airfix kit when I was a kid (series 1 in a plastic bag for 2/6) and usually built them in an hour or two. I remember being really chuffed when my aunt bought me the B29 one Easter.

A few weeks back I happen to come across one of my favourite kits the Airfix B17G "Bit o Lace". This has got me started again, this time I want to make a really good job of it. Being an old kit it will need some TLC, also to make it a good reprsentation of the aircraft, some changes will have to be made. The Cheyanne (is that how you spell it?) rear gun mount on the kit is not accurate. the guns in the kit are terrible and will need replacing. I'll change the wheels as well while I'm at it and also the decal of the reclining lady "miss lace" is wearing - or not wearing white clothing when it should be red.

As I get started I'll let you know how i get on with this - but Isee it as a long term project and will dabble with other planes as well. I already have a Revell Halifax and a Mossie, P51D and P47 from Tamiya to play with.

One thing I have already found enjoyable is the research on the planes.

Enough for now

Alan

Howdy Alan,

Welcome to the forum, we are happy you found us. We always enjoy meeting new members and encourage them to participate in any discussion they take an interest in. Feel free to give advice, ask questions look through the other members galleries. Also we love to see photos.....lots of photos so if ya got em, show em' .
Your project sounds like you intend to do the "Bit o' Lace" properly, if ya need help finding reference photos, just ask, I have never researched that particular aircraft, but I love helping people when it comes to finding stuff on the net.
Anyway, again, we are glad you joined up, I think you will find alot of helpful friendly people here who are as much interested in what you are doing as they are what they are doing.

Have a good day ,

Greg aka GEEDUBBYA (GW)

Alan a very warm welcome to the forum. Have a good look around you may well find something of interest here and feel free to tell us as much about your builds as you want. Most of all enjoy your time here.

As for your childhood I'm afraid you have that bit wrong. You are not going through a second childhood, you never finished your first one!!

Welcome! I, too, am "regressing to my childhood" and getting back into building models (after 30-some years).

Many thanks for the warm welcome.

I have many questions I want to ask - not sure if this thread is the best place for them though. I'll post some photos as I start the build on the B17 and the others.

Most of my reference work is done on the internet (god bless it) either during my lunch break at work or early evenings while the other half's engrossed in the soaps. There's a lot of info on miss lace on the web there's even a website dedicated to it and the 447BG which I have used regulary.

I've been building up my tool kit recently at bit at a time, and converting the garage into a suitable workshop and radio shack - still a bit of work to do there before I'm happy and ready to start. Working on the table is a no-no in this household.

Who wears the trousers in this house - no me!

Regards,

Alan
