Games software will not load properly ?

A neighbour sought my help today, they asked me to assist with installing some software for a dedicated flying game, they have an high spec machine, with plenty of RAM,good processor and a decent graphics card, despite this the game when installed will open up with the leader bit with the aeroplanes flying around and then all you get are some rectangular boxes in either corner of the screen ? I have tried several re-installs to no avail ?
Having taken it home and tried installation on my own machine it is fine and works well, what can be wrong here ?
Can anyone suggest what could be the cause,or any checks to perform on the software ?,the manufacturers support line was sent a message a week ago,but have not had the decency to reply,it is the Gathering WW.1 game, fairly new as well.

I've just found this on a forum

I was told and read on the forums that the VIA S3G Unicrome chipset is not made for gaming. It does not have T&L support and is not really for 3d stuff.

*** John that explains it,little wonder it would not function properly, oddly enough I installed FS200 for them to keep them happy and it works fine, must just be someting about the games, wonder if they will fix this eventually to work the games ? another problem solved, what would we do without your expertise on these things ? I was tearing my hair out what I have left anyway !
