Are you sure the CD-Rom is working in DOS?

Also like Iain says it is a bit drastic just to delete an icon, but then again it's good to have a fresh install now and then.

If you have removed all the shareware files completely, there should be nothing left to interact with any other program. I always double check 'cause sometimes the uninstall provided does not actually remove everything.
Do you know the name of the directory into which the files were loaded in the first place? (C:\program files\kodak or something). Often shareware stuff puts itself directly onto Drive C: (c:\name of app)
If so, use file manager to check that the directory has actually been deleted. If not .. delete it manually by highlighting it (left mouse clisk) and pressing the Delete keyboard button.

Then deal with the CD Burner. Which one are you using? Normally it is possible to re-install the burner software and this should remove any 'hard wired links'. On the burner I use (EasyCD and/or Nero6), the only way of Appending to an existing set of CD data is by Importing any existing sessions from the CD first. Any files then added will create a new session including all the old plus the new.
If you have formatted a CD using the directCD function, it behaves just like a mini-hard drive and you can drag and drop files on to it.

I'm honestly not sure about the Kodak logo on your pikkies!? :-(

As I said, if you have an icon nest to the Start button, right click on it and select Delete. That only gets rid of the Icon.

The Registry Cleaner will get rid of any remaining rubbish. I use it on a routine basis to keep the registry tidy. Its amazing the garbage that even well regulated programs leave lying around - some of which can really slow down your system and even make it unstable!
I'm just off to check whether or not a 'trial' version of such an application can be had over the internet.

Best of luck .....
Iain

Reference the trial version ....
Go to SYSTWEAK.com web site. They have downloadable trial versions of all their stuff. Try the Registry Optimiser.
Works for me.

Having said all this, I appreciate what John says about a 'clean' install every now and then. Guess it all depends on how many Applications you have on the machine! Me .. it takes around a day and a half to get everything back together again. So I'm very wary .....

Sheesh .... I have a memory like a chicken these days! Comes with getting old I guess!

If you do elect for a complete re-install, please make sure that you have application install CD's and that you know the Licence information BEFORE you set about it all!
In the past I have ended up with endless trouble by ignoring this simple thing!

Most apps will give you this info when you click on Help>About.
I actually keep a separate text file containing all this stuff JIC.

Now I'll shutup ..... promise.

Hi
Iam going for a complete wipe and reinstall I have that much rubbish a fresh start is in order. To my best knowledge I can boot up from the floppy and then I can get a prompt from the win98 cd to load up .It stops as it knows that I have win98 already on the h/drive.So I think were ready to format.I have done this a few times and been successful but was a little time ago.So John what is the dos command for a wipe clean
martin
P.S. At least this time the computer hasen't crashed like in the past.

OK if your really ready

from the A: prompt type format c: /s
(If and thats a big IF it says it can't find command from the A: prompt type c:\windows\command\format c: /s )
once it's finished reboot go to your cd-rom drive and run Windows setup.
