Wings of war software.

Me again,I have been trying all evening to install the 'Wings of war' software but am having problems, this is what happens-
I load the disc and it starts to install, then the message comes up 'if prompted to install DirectX click OK' it then says 'Severe' (top lefthand box) with unable to launch\dxsetup.exe (which is dxwebsetup.exe which is already installed).
Just to make sure that I have the current version I went and over wrote it and sure enough it is there,so why is the software saying that it is unable to launch uit ? why is it not picking up the one installed ?

Disregarding this I tried to load it and open the programme,it just goes to a black screen, when I do a 'ctrl/alt/delete' to get out of it,the prog is in sleep mode on the lower toolbar ?

I was expecting Wings of war to install easy peasy now that I have a decent graphics card, but not so,any ideas on how I can get it working properly ?

Two things here:
Direct X is on version 9.0c now, is this the one you have..?? and do you have the very latest drivers for your graphics card..??
Usually when I install new hardware, I use the drivers supplied during initial installation and then once it's up and running, I go to the manufacturers website to check for the very latest drivers. Guaranteed 9 times out of 10 there will be newer drivers available on the site.
I had similar problems with another programme recently but I just updated my drivers and it was sorted.

Regards........Mark

*** Mark this is what is puzzling me ? John fixed me up with bang up to date Nividea card driver 71.9 and last night I went to Microsofts site and downloaded the DirectX again and over-wrote it,not sure if this is the version you mention, where can I find which version is installed ? the FS2004 is perfect, when the Wings of war is going through the install stages the graphic examples are fine,it just blacks out the screen when I click on the play burtton, really weird. Also the CDRom disc hunts when inserted and will not boot, and why is it unable to launch \dxsetup.exe ? I think if I could get past that stage then it would work properly.
Thanks anyway I understand the importance of this DirectX upgrade.

Barry,
You can get DirectX 9.0c here
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx or here
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...1-914185249413

as for the Nvidia Driver....mine only shows version 71.84 (English) using a special driver hunting program...but as you say the NVidia site shows version 71.89...not sure if this is a different driver or indeed a newer one.

Regards.......Mark

*** Yes Mark can now confirm that is the version that was downloaded, this is interesting from the Microsoft FAQ's-

'As mentioned previously, DirectX 9.0 is fully backward-compatible with titles written for previous versions of DirectX. If you are having other problems after installing DirectX 9.0, these can often be resolved by installing updated drivers for your display card, audio card, or input device'.

Which is exactly what I did but still to no avail,it is only the 'Wings of war' that it does not seem to like for some reason ?

All I can think of then is something wrong with your copy of Wings of War...do you have access to another copy you can try..??
It does happen from time to time.
Is there anything on the site for Wings of War for known issues..?? might be worth checking out just in case
