Anti Virus

Norton Anti Virus on my wife's computer has expired but in the next couple of weeks she is going to get a new Computer so there's no point in renewing the subscription. I'm going to download Zone Alarm for a firewall - I've used it in the past and it's very good - but can anyone recommend a free and efficient anti virus that she could use for the time being.

Many thanks,

Ian

Everyone will give you a different answer when it comes to firewalls and AV, personally I've used Sygate for years without any problems, it's now free from here

And for AV another free one that works very well is AVG, I've used this for a couple of years with good results, you can download it from here

AVG gets my vote everytime. Uses very little system resources and it's free.

Isnt it a bit wierd?
Norton, as we all know can half the speed of your puter (well evry time ive ever tried it, i have hadto remove it. not an easyprocess btw).
I just wonder that avg seems to run un-noticabley in the background and Norton interferes with performance so much and it is still the biggest AV on the market.
Wierd eh?
TigerTC virus free since 1999.

If Norton has it's own uninstaller programme click on that and let it do it's stuff, if not and you are on Win Xp...go into control panel, then add/remove programmes and find it in the list there, click on it and then the change/remove button and it should do it's stuff...you may have to do a restart after to complete it all.

I will agree with the Others...Norton is a very intrusive programme and does slow down your pc quite a lot.....My sister had a 6 month trial version that used to interfere with everything including allowing her to go onto windows update. When that expired we got shut of it and she now has AVG and has used it ever since.

Regards.......Mark.
