memory card question

ok fellows, help needed

i am abit naive to all this and this is puzzling me alot so i may come across as some kind of idiot but i need to know !

i recently bought a new olympus digital camera....... it uses a XD memory card

it was supplied with a tiny card so after about 8 shots the memory is full- so looked at the paperwork that came with the camera regarding memory, the paperwork states that M type Xd cards are not compatible with my model of camera....
went down to a high street store and bought a H256 mb fuji memory card, a H type card....

stuck it in the camera and took pictures, stuck the card in the card reader on my pc and downloaded the 22 images i took that morning..... then put the card back in the camera , turned it back on and the camera immediately bleeped card error......
played around with a few things and then stuck it back in the card reader, the computer now says insert disk when the disk IS in !
so now the camera or the PC dont recognise the card....

off i went back to the shop where i bought the memory card- and spoke to someone who claims to be the camera expert ( HUH LOL ) he says the H type card i bought is not suitable for my camera.....?
i explained it has already been used and i have pictures off the card......he then said not my problem, no exchange, no refund or whatever....
i left the shop puzzled, i dont really care about the refund/ exchange or whatever but please answer a few questions for me....

I cannot erase/ reformat the card either in the camera or via the PC .... the card is now ' invisible' ............ is it now destined for the bin ?

are H type cards and M type cards the same ? is this why it no longer works?

can anyone recommend somewhere that sells memory cards online which has good quality sales service/ back up service with staff who know what they are saying ?
( not the high street chemist with the 20 yr old spotty expert who sold me this card!)

thanks

email the manufacturer cos it sounds like the card has died

(i had a sandisk ultra II SD card that died while taking a pic)

and they should give you a place to send it so they can say its dead and send you a new one

if the card just died its a warrenty job

the shop prob wont be able to refund the card or replace it but the manufactuer should

I have an Olympus camera and the guy in the shop said I may have compatibility problems if I used anything other than Olympus M type cards, I know with mine it has something to do with the panoramic option on it, try exchanging it for a Olympus card it might be the fact it's a Fuji that's causing the problem.

What model is your camera?

He can't do that, say your off to trading standards, he has to at least exchange it, after all it was on his advise you bought it

The shop has a legal obligation to replace the card or give you your money back. Take it back as a faulty card. take your camera and a card that does work if necessary. And do not give in to the ignorant "camera xpert". The law is on your side.
I fa anthing you buy does not do the job it is supposed to you can get a refund or replacement within a reasonable period, usually 12 months.

My camera is an Olympus. The only function which does not work with mine using a non-Olympus card is the video function. I use Sandisk and Fuji cards with no problem. I get mine from www.7dayshop.com as I find price and service good.

If you still have your receipt the shop is legally obliged to honour the 12 month guarantee by law.

www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/fracts/salegoodsact.htm
Take a print out of sale of goods act with you. Normally makes 'em straighten their story quickly.

Unless they can prove you did something silly and that would likely be very difficult for them.

FLYTILBROKE

many many thanks- used the link and have 4 cards coming, only 128mb but hell they are cheap as they are in the sale ! £4-95 each
i already have a standard 128mb fuji card so i know they work ok, so will take the other card back to the hight street chemist and will kick up a stink until i get a refund...i have checked and double checked and i have done everything by the letter, i have not done anything daft to damage the card...

thanks for the link it was a great source of well priced cards that will get me out of trouble for a while !
