AVG Users please note.

Just a quick note from one of our correspondents-
I came across this AVG Anti-Virus will not being free anymore after
January says Money Saving Expert.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1162826527,35939,
As you know a lot of people use it.
I think it means if you already have AVG 7.1 it will still be free after January.
If you don't I assume you have to pay.
Avast4 is free, I thought this one a bit better than AVG (it did pick up
two virus's that AVG didn't) although I now use ZoneAlarm Suite.
See what you think ?

I had problems with AlarmZone (cannot remember what) AVG expires on January 15th. I have been using it for years, I will be sad to see it go.

Why is the free version 1MB larger than the commercial version?

Howdy guys,

well, I use AVG too and was prompted to download the new updated "Free" version recently, my understanding is that you will still be able to use the free version (new one). For more information on this, I thought I would provide the link to grissofts website/download page.

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/...nti-virus-free

go to the bottom of the page for the download.

Not only was I prompted to d/l the new version recently, my g/f who also uses avg, told me that hers was expiring BEFORE I got the promt to upgrade the free version, so I walked her thru the d/l process and neither I nor her have recieved anything stating there is a charge for the free version.

Just thought I would comment on this topic, be sure to check out the link above to d/l the new updated 7.5 free version for windows.

Have a good day,

Greg

I noticed a while back AVG was going pay, I've used it for years and never had any problems with it, but still won't pay for it, so I'm now using Avast only been testing it on my laptop but will be moving all my computers to it over the next month or so, I've heard a lot of good reports about Avast and so far it's worked fine for me

CALM DOWN, CALM DOWN !!

AVG is still free, If any of you using it read the pop-up message carefully, all it tells you is that the current free version of AVG is stopping in January..that is version 7.1. and that a new free version is available for download...Version 7.5 and that is exactly what that little popup message is telling you. I am running it now and have been since the little popup appeared....I have had several people at work ask me about this during this last week and they all use AVG lol....I have put them on the right path now.

Rest easy...AVG only charge for business/Corporate users. Us home users still have it for free.

So update now ...yes there are a few minor cosmetic changes but it is still AVG....FOR FREE !!!

Regards....Mark.

Just to reassure our readers,

AVG will continue to be free for home/personal use from January 2007, the current version 7.1 is being replaced by version 7.5 which is now available for download....and is of course still completely free !!

And a quick Teaser for you........

I am running an Anti-Virus program on my Computer but I am also running a Major Virus on my computer...the Anti-Virus actually protects the Virus.
The Virus itself is very infectious but will not harm or destroy any files or computers and only leaves my pc when I allow it to......don't panic !!!

What Virus do I have on My Pc.....???

Regards.........Mark

Hi Possm,

Welcome to the Forums,

In reply to above, What I meant is, the current version of AVG that most people are running at the moment (Version 7.1) will no longer be supported after January 2007 as Version 7.5 has now been released for free....AVG are urging people to upgrade to that version to continue protecting their computers. As stated it is still completely FREE !!

Regards.......Mark.
