Waste bin has vanished ?

My waste bin has just vanished ? what could have happened,a search for waste bin or trash bin has found nothing,is there any other way to get it back again ? surely you cannot delete a waste bin.

I thought you meant the one outside!!!

To be honest I didn't think it was possible to remove the recycle bin.

Assuming you have done the normal reboot procedure it looks like a registry entry has dissappeared or become corrupted. Have you recently done anything to the registry, loaded anything new, removed anything etc etc?

I think this may be one for John.

The best thing to do is do a system restore and then it should come back. when the recycle bin vanishes like that it usually means your registry is a bit wierd. So if you do a system restore then it should come back.

Well I have just installed Nortons System Works within the past few days, but why would that take the waste bin away ?

Well if you download this little widget http://www.dougknox.com/xp/xp_fixes.html
you can get the waste bin back onto your desktop,it seems to be a fairly common thing especially on the new Vista set up,I notice that the bin now contains a Nortons Un-erase wizard that was not there before ? me thinks that this happened after the Nortons system works download.
I would still like to know why it vanished like that, but at least my waste bin has returned thanks to that excellent little fix, anyway I hope that this helps someone in the future, never had that happen before ?

do you have windows xp barry? if you do and you have the start menu on "start menu" instead of "classic start menu" the recycle bin, my computer, my documents and my network places appear on the start menu instead of on the desktop.

Thanks RJ,I have taken that in,it has always been on my desktop before but could possibly have reverted to the start menu without me noticing it ? will keep my eye on it,you only miss it when it is not there !
