| Problem cracked at last ! Well I solved the driver problem,it has taken me all day to work slowly backwards on that system restore to see where the problem commenced, after all that it was the CDRW driver which Microsoft kept picking up on and giving me a prompt, when I went to the respective Roxio page with the so called patch I downloaded it and it refused to install, the reason ? well it was not installed in the first place and that must have been the reason the self healing XP bit came in and stopped it from loading,to get the CDRW working I just downloaded a trial Nero which worked, touch wood,no prompts so far,and no crashes on the scanner and my database where it gave me problems initially.
That system restore is good, only problem is I had to re-install a lot of since added software programs to bring it up to date, but it was worth it.
The situation reminded me of when automatic cameras came in,with the older manual ones you could fix any setting manually,if I could have by-passed the XP safety thing then I could have probably removed the problem suspect driver manually, see what I am getting at ? anyway it is another lesson learned only use software that is compatible with that operating system and dont leave it to chance that you can get a patch easily to solve the problem.
All that I need now is to sort out the Laplink and I will leave it alone.
