A couple of pikkies of 'static' engines built over the years.
The one below is, I think, a Stuart Turner launch engine but it was built when an apprentice around 1953, largely without the use of a lathe! The crankshaft was fabricated bit by bit, with force fit webs, keyed with pin keys. This probably explains the somewhat odd crank angles when it runs!! If memory serves me right, the cylinder bores were cleaned up using a drill press and a fly cutter, then hand reamed to size.
All in all an interesting exercise but not one I'd recommend if you want a sweet running final product ..... It goes OK on around 40 psi steam pressure but is certainly not efficient and self starting just dosen't happen.
