I finally got the glue film stuff from a seller on ebay....it came in a very sturdy heavy gauge card tube about 3 inches in diameter and was totally bent in half! It came with a sticker attached regarding missing or broken items and the message that unfortunately some items do get broken in transit.

It was obviously a lightsabre fight at the local sorting office I'm sure!

Initial attempts at using it to hold down brass have been met with great success. Unfortunately the residue glue seems really stubborn to remove, I've tried various methods, but a mix of meths, wire wool and detergent works in the end.

For the smaller stuff, i.e. brass with a very small contact area I tried soldering to a sheet of brass and it worked great, machining some small hooks from 2mm brass.
