r/c boat newbie
08 Jan, 2009 - 11:31 AM - by petrolhead63
Hi, I am new to this fab looking forum.

30+odd years ago as a lad, an avid modeller, I was given a grp cabin cruiser hull which had previously had nitro in it, it is near 40 inches long. I intended to electric r/c it and started collecting bits together but at the time it was relatively very expensive! and floundered.

I now have my own kids and am working on this hull having got together more parts. I am not using the even older Taycol motor, new with instructions figuring it is too nice to use in this boat!

I have an 850 motor to run on 6-12V, a 12v 7.2a/h lead acid battery which weighs a bit but it is a large boat so should be fine. The old taycol motor was of course heavy!

I have a nice esc for the control of speed and this will power the r/c through the bec system.

The shaft is a new water sealed one I intend to fit and a brass rudder.

Being very new are there any essential tips I should know, siting/fitting the rudder servo etc? battery siting? propeller shaft siting and angle,

Prop size?? going to start with a 50mm racing prop and see what happens!

I am not after a racing boat, being into real boats too one that handles/maneovers well would be nice. I figure the... [Read More]

Paint Booth
07 Jan, 2009 - 11:49 PM - by dhockey11
Howdy,

I just got an airbrush for christmas, so, I had to make myself a fume hood type thing. Me and my dad put this thing together in about an hour.

1. Get the Materials : Internal Exhaust Oven Hood with Filter and Light(used Craiglist and got a lightly used one for 15$). 1/2" Plywood. Lightbulb (halogen for better lighting and energy efficiency. Power cord and minor electrical supplies.

2. Draw a plan, keep it simple. The hood I found was 30"x18", so thats how big my box needs to be. I made it 22" tall, so it would be a comfortable hieght while sitting on a desk (I'm tall and don't want to hit my head).

3. With those dimensions in mind, I started making cuts on the table saw. the two sides were 18"X22", the bottom was 29"X17.5" and the Back was 29"x22". I used wood glue and brads to assemble into a box type thing. Set the hood on top and fastened with screws.

4. Wire the new electrical cord to the hood, making sure to use the proper amp and gauge cord for the hood's electronics. Clamp the cord so if pulled it doesn't rip everything else out. Screw in the light bulb.

That's all there is to it!

There are some issues with my model... [Read More]

» Posting on the forum
Every now and again I get an email from someone who has joined yet can't workout how to post, I thought for every person that emails me there's probably several that haven’t and have not posted and not come back, which is a great loss, so this is a quick beginners guide to posting on the forum.

There are several ways but with out complicating things these are the easiest on the main page of the forum you will see a listing of each forum available you will also notice that there are 2 small icons near the middle of the page, one is a magnifying glass the other is like a notepad icon, if you press that on the forum you would like to post in it will go straight to the post editor box

All you need to do is put in your title. Type your message and press the Submit New Thread button, it's that easy

To reply to a post there are a couple of way of doing this.

Just above the fist post and just below the last one is a Post Reply button, that will take you in to the full screen editor the same as post new thread, or you can use the Quick Reply box, this one's even easier, type your message and submit it and finally there is the quote post button, that shows at the bottom of every persons post, it enables you to quote a post in your reply.

Hope this has helped, if not let me know and I will expand this
