| i work on top of st leonards hill looking down over windsor castle, heathrow and in the distance the wembley arch and towerblocks of canary wharf....
but our location means we have civil aircraft every 2 or 3 minutes, depending upon which runway aircraft are landing on at heathrow, usually we are the point at which undercarraige goes down !
see alsorts of stuff, the usual stuff but some of the cargo aircraft first thing or late in the day are quite a sight with garish livery and sometimes unusual markings.....
makes the day interesting !

| Colin,a terrible accident witnessed by many people, much controversy why they insisted afterewards on calling the restored aircraft 'Killer Cat' a silly thing to do.

| It is the knee jerk reaction of people who, if they took the time to research these things would know that during WW2 the Catalina were known as The Killer Cats, due to their success against the U-Boats and the Japanese subs , not counting the anti shipping patrols they used to carry out.It was tragic but it was an accident. Worse happened in wartime. |

| A friend of the family used to be an Air Gunner .He was sent to the far east and began ops on Catalinas . An aussie pilot decided one day to beat up some ships at anchor. The friend was in one of the blisters as the pilot began his low level run in . It was low.The aircraft hit a submerged reef and had part of the hull torn off.The crew were shook up and the captain of one of the ships reported the pilot. The aircraft beached on a sandbank and was out of action for several weeks . The pilot was transfered to another sqdn and was killed after being shot down by zeros .Just thought id tell you that. |

| I once did a couple of charity flights many years ago whereby I had to collect quite a bit of money. About half of which paid for the flight and the other half went to the charity that organized it. The first one was a series of stunts that got progressively more daring ending up in a spiraling dive with five rotations and the second one I had to fly the aircraft in a loop. Both were the most amazing things I have ever done. The second one the guy let me fly it in a very tight turn until we hit our own wash and then he let me fly the approach. Stunning experiences both of them |

| If you want to be really impressed by something flying by, when I used to manufacture ski lifts many years ago, I was up the top of a hill working on the top station one day.
I heard this whooshing beat noise getting slowly louder and couldn't for the life of me work out what it was. Then just over the crest of a nearby brow three swans in the most perfect formation imaginable flew across and went past me below where I was hanging off the tower.
The grace, majesty and power of those birds was quite unbeleivable as they flew past and was an experience that will stay with me for ever. |
