| Aviation News-Qater deny firm order. Qatar Airways yesterday denied it had placed a firm order for 20 Boeing 777 aircraft, hours after the Chicago-based plane maker issued a statement saying the Persian Gulf carrier agreed to buy aircraft worth as much as $4.9-billion (U.S.).
We are still in talks with Boeing about the 777s and there are technical issues to be addressed, said Salam al-Shawa, Qatar Airways head of communications. The deal is not finalized yet.
Boeing earlier said in a statement the Qatari state-owned carrier was the buyer of 14 777-300ERs and six 777-200LRs that had been previously attributed to an unidentified customer.
The press release was issued prematurely, Boeing spokesman Jim Condelles said.
