I have to say that having seen the remake of this film, much prefer the original story and film which showed the C-82 Packet, the new Phoenix re-incarnation looks less likely a flyer than the one in the original film, just mu humble opinion.
And the supporting cast with James Stuart probably had something to do with its appeal ?
Thanks for your interesting story Richard and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum!

I must agree that the recent Flight of the Phoenix wasn't a patch on the original!

And the crash sequence at the start was the worst kind of unbelievable CG nonsense! Lots of continuity weirdness too! I don't think even the production crew could stand to sit through the whole film when it was done!

Yeah I know the film was pants they stopped using C119's for water bombing 'cos the wings came off too easily (and they roll it) but you can't blame '67U for the film so I chose to make her and the fact that she is one of the few civil 119's without a fan heater stuck on her back

In Answer to Alan's Post above,

I think the CGI sequence was used on the remake as in the real crash sequence in the making of this film, the actual aircraft flipped very badly on landing killing the main stunt Pilot.
I do recall seeing a video of it recently somewhere like youtube, If I can find it again I will post the link.

Regards.....Mark

Oohh, I thought you was talking about me first of all. Never seen the re-make *pukes* I prefer the original. Stewart, Attenborough, Bannen, Finch, The Bull et al.
Soo much betterer. I mean is quad a better actor than old Jimmy...doubt it!
Welcome to the forum and enjoy

I know that in the original film that the phoenix crashed, killing the pilot. I didn't know there was a fatality in the remake too?
