      Tamiya here i come

      Hi Gents,

My practice sessions with 1/72 scale airfix and revell models are finished

My Academy 1/48 scale MiG 21 is finished too, build went well, but i am not happy with paint job, but i know where i went wrong, i have not thinned down my silver revell enamel, but that was to be expected. I will take some photos and post them to get laughed at, but hey such is life.

I read only good things about Tamiya and Hasegawa kits, i feel confident enough to take either of them on, but my first choice is Tamiya.

Can anybody recommend 1/48 scale Tamiya kit? Cold war era jets are my current theme, (tamiya preferably but Hasegawa will do also) also i am running into issues with which paints to get, its very hard to find info about which paints to get with the kit so i end up guessing or wasting money on deliveries as i can only get right paints when i get the kit.

If there are no jets i am looking for made by tamiya and Hasegawa WWII fighter will do too, anything apart from spitfire

Just tell me to get lost if i am asking too much

      Take care
      Ved

Hi Ved, please don't feel that you'll get laughed at coz I can promise you that won't happen here. At worse, you'll get constructive feedback, but that just makes you a better modeller & gives some advice and inspiration. I cant help you with kit recommendation as I'm not a plane man but I know plenty of the other guys will be happy to help. Post up your pics & be proud of your work! Patrick

I can't help with your questions, as I build 1/35 armour.
I thought the same as you when I decided to 'go public' with my efforts, but I needn't have worried, through doing so I have come across a great bunch of people.
As Patrick so rightly comments Ved, this site is like no other....No nasty, I'm better than you attitude here, just good, honest and helpful comments. All served with a good dollop of humour.
So show your efforts friend, even if YOU think your model has been painted with a yard brush!! LOL

I took one picture last night, but i need to take better one that will show more detail.

I sent that one to friend of mine, i left lighter in the frame just to give him an idea of the size.

I will take few more when i tidy up my desk.

I am still to add weapons onto the wing pylons.

There's nothing wrong with that Ved! it's a lovely little build & you should be proud of it! As I said, planes aren't my thing-in fact I've only made 2 tank models so far-but I think that looks very good, it's making me want to build some planes now, so well done & keep going.

I'm not really a jet guy but I know that Hasegawa do many more jets in 1/48 than Tamiya. If none of the jet chaps chip in I'll happily recommend a couple of props, excluding the Spitfire.
Can't see much wrong with your posted Mig either,it looks nice. As some of the others have said don't be afraid to post, noone is going to be rude or unhelpful here (unlike some places I won't name!)
As for paints, most airforces use(d) fairly strictly regulated schemes differing at different times and in different theatres, if you can't find the information you need for an upcoming project you could ask here. There is a good chance someone has either done that scheme or knows what it should be. I know Tony (Yakface) does a lot of Soviet stuff for example.
      Cheers

hi ved,the mig looks great, dont be so hard on yourself. If you want cold war jets in 1/48 by tamiya then you havent got much choice at all, only the mig 15,sea harrier ,f15 eagle or a10 warthog, hasegawa do a lot more jets but again not a lot of early cold war stuff.Something to consider is the other jets by academy such as the mig 29 or su 27 in 1/48,good kits and reasonable price too, or what about trumpeter ,they do quite a few migs and other cold war jets in 1/48 .If youre determined to go with tamiya though dont forget even some of their kits are quite old now,i got the sea harrier and found it very basic, obviously a very old tooling ,although anything thats from the last 15 years is superb ,i got a 1/48 mosquito vi , it practically builds itself!! any other questions dont hesitate to ask youll always get an answer . cheers tony

      Hi Ved

Tamiya also do very good 1/48 kits of WW2 jets, the He-162, Me 262 and the Gloster Meteor, if that is of interest to you. The Heinkel has good engine detail as standard, and the Mes has a version with the engine included, if it's not already incuded. Not sure with the Meteor.

I have made that Academy Mig-21, I did it in a tiger stripe scheme of the Indian Air Force. Will try to post a pic if I can dig it out of storage in the stash cave

      Keep on glueing! Saul

I have been eyeing up academy Su-27, amazing bird that, and their Mig 29 are both on my to do list.

So many to choose from, i am going to have to buy few

Yak Face, thanks for heads up for trumpeter kits, i had a wee read about trumpeter kits they seem impressive, would you recommend above kits? I have not found any reviews about them do you have any info? Do you maybe have info about exact paints i need to get for these kits? I will buy either availability permitting.
