Any one know about the old frog 500

Hi,
Just found this site and wondered if any one knows anything about this old engine.(FROG 500) My uncle gave it to me about, well lets just say along time ago. Its not complete as the needle vave is missing. I found some info of the net that said it may be from the 1950's. As it has no throttel, it may have been used for free flight or control line (artical I found was a chap in australia in 1957 photed with his plane)

Would be grateful of any history of this

I had a Frog 500 in the mid 50s, I used it to power a Spitfire control line model that I scaled up from 1/72 plans to about 36" wingspan. It went around half a lap before flying in on the lines and plunging into the long grass - unfortunately there was a hidden manhole cover lurking there and the Spit scored a bulls eye, the model came of very much second best in the contest.

Your best bet of a spraybar and needle valve if you want to restore it is John D. Haytree on 01626 852330, he only works part time now I believe its Mon - Weds.

At the recent Guilding auction a Fair 500 had an estimate of £25 - £30, a Good 500 had an estimate of £30 - £50 and an Excellent 500 in its box had an estimate of £50 - £80. I went along to pick up some Oliver Tigers at a bargain price but the place was heaving at 8.30am and very few engines failed to reach their lower estimate. I left with nothing I'm afraid.

Hi Dave,
Thank's for the reply. would like to get this old engine to run again but Im allitel worried about cost. I am just getting back in to the Hobby after alon time. Decided to build the Magazine project Car the Alpha gp3 Kyhosho. With any project like this the cost can spiral abit, so when this project is complete I may well contact your Mr Haytree. I also Have an Enya 19V which I have kept since I was a school kid. I bought this of a friend who had it in a steel framed stock car, not very sucessful as it was belt drive and fixed drive (I.E no clutch) he gave up and I then used it in an rc Air boat, with a plane prop , what a finger chopper. I cracked the hull and took the engine out. That was the last time it was run over 20 years ago, the engine its self athough it a grimmey has lived in a tin ever since. This one is complete and was thinking when I get to the stage of putting fule in my new project I would give the old girl a spin Keeping my digets well clear of that prop.
Any way thans againg for the info

Paul.
