Project nitro R/C LMP sportscar

Hi i am starting my nitro R/C LMP sportscar soon and thought i would share it with you the car will be 1/5 scale twin .21 engines,4WD it will measure 730mm long,320mm wide,180mm high.

It will be slightly based on a Radical SR8 sportscar see picture
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...25/aSR8204.jpg
and this is a side drawing on the car to show the size of the car i will be building side drawing

And this is the engine i will be using now but two of them

It produces 2.7hp and rev's to 38,000 rpm and cost £140 each and i will be having two of them, today i bought the 8mm steel tubing i will be using to make the chassis.

Got my side drawing done for the chassis for my nitro R/C LMP car but when i enlarged the other drawing i enlarged it to the wrong size so all the measurement were out,so now i devided the full size measurements of the real car by five to make sure the car would be right and then re-enlarged it to the right size, which i should of done in the first place so now the car measures 838mm long,352mm wide,220mm high and a wheelbase of 500mm.

so now it is a 1/5 scale car but i still ain't sure on the engines to use.

1/5 scale cars normally use 2stroke petrol (24-26cc) engines, similiair is used in strimmers adn lawnmowers, however they also have disc brakes, on all 4 wheels in soem cases. there will be a fair bit of weight and it will take considerable effort to stop or even slow something of that size. But you are talking of using 8mm tube steel which will be very very strong but also heavy. you may be cheaper in teh long run to go on the larger engine route.

The 8mm tubing i will be using it pretty light really it has a 1mm thick wall, the car will have disc brakes all round or just the two brakes of the buggy transmissons i will use to save weight and will be 4WD,plus i can't fit a FG engine as there isn't enough room in the back to house it thats why i am using two 21 nitro engines and the weight of the chassis will be around 4lb to 5lb which is pretty light and the full weight of the car complete should be around 4.5 kg to 5 kg or it could be abit more but alot less weight than an FG car fully loaded.

I have another chassis design to reduce weight alot to about 2lb to 3lb and proberly overall weight around 4kg to 4.5kg or less based on this type of design http://www.dpcars.net/dp1bld/index.htm.

Today when i was doing the drawings for the chassis i ran into a problem which i sort of new i would get but wasn't sure till i did the drawings,to fit the two engines in the chassis i need to make a custom engine mount but the engines will sit in a vee shape position to fit in but i can't make it till i get my milling machine in october then after christmas i will be getting my lathe.I will be also using the two .21 engines i have already for mock up till i get the other ones next year.

Well the car has grew to 1/4 scale so i can use a FG 26cc petrol engine as to power it also it will make the chassis easier to build but now i need to do new drawing for the larger chassis.

Well the zenoah engine is out and i might have two hotbodies .46 engines or two hpi 4.6cc engines to power the car as the zenoah is just to heavy for the car.
