My New Hobby

Well after afew times going into The model centre shop at the Trafford Centre i decided to start a new hobby in Scalextric so i bought my first set which i order Monday from anticsonline, and it arrived this morning at 10:43am and i have left it all in the box till my bedroom is sorted out and i have made and fitted the fold-out baseboard for it to go on when i use it and the fold-out baseboard will be fitted on the wall next to my bed and will open out over the bed.

As that is the only way i can store a 6ft x 5ft baseboard in my room and not be in any way in the room but i will have some smaller ones that will side into a unit i will make sometime after Christmas, and will attach to the 6ftx5ft board to make it bigger so i can have a bigger track and maybe around or before Christmas i hope to buy the digital conversion set to convert it from analogue to digital so we can race more cars at the same time.

I built a nice layout in an attic room a few years ago and got a tremendous amount of enjoyment from it. I even soldered jump wires across all the joints and fed the rack at two points to ensure continuity and reliability.

It has all gone now but I kept my two favourite cars which still sit on a shelf in the study. The thing is with a fixed track is that you have to design it to be demanding and intersting enough to remain challenging for years to come. If it is too easy and you get very good at it you will end up getting bored with the layout so put plenty of thought into the design.

Banked hairpin curves up a hillside are usefull, too slow and you fall off and too fast and you launch yourself through the door!!

You will have to tell us more about the digital system. The last time I looked they used electric motors controlled by a resistance and a wiper in the controller handle. I take it this has all advanced now?

Well the digital Conversion Set will now be bought after christmas as i spent £215 buying the two sets but i was only going to buy just the one set to start off with but the model shop was calling me to buy another, and i haven't really been able to use it properly yet due to space but my sister is moving out again so some of my stuff will be moved into that room so i will have a 12ftx4ft space to set it up in my bedroom once i have moved afew things around.

As soon as i get the Digital Conversion Set i will post some info on it and how i find using it.

I ordered the track designer CD-ROM from amazon on monday so i can design some layouts to fit in the space i will have for it,and i also ordered a C8295 Elevated Track from Amazon so i got two.

And today i ordered some stuff from Antics which is the Sport Track RMS PC Interactive (C8143),Sport Track Radius 1 Curve 45 (x4) (C8202) and Sport Track Throttle Extension Cables (C8247) to round it to £30 so i get postage free.

And thats it for now as i only got a fiver left in the bank now till i get paid again which is a week on saturday so i will be buying some track once i got a track plan sorted out.
