Hi Daved,

A new 27Mhz receiver should not set you back too much as it will only be a 2 channel one you need for your car anyway. You can typically fetch one of these now for between £10 and £14 from most online model shops or even cheaper on ebay (there are plenty to chose from on ebay too !!)

Seeing as they are that cheap, might as well go for a new one and you will have peace of mind with that.....2nd hand ones are fine but only if you can get to test them out first.

Regards.......Mark

If possible I would think about buying a new radio set which gives you the piece of mind in knowing that the reciever and transmitter and crystals are all compatible and these are also pretty cheap for a 2 channel 27 meg set on Ebay.

If money is a real issue for you I would definately buy new and if possible buy the same manufacturer as your hand set. Check these out:

Hi Joe,

The short answer to your question is...... NO

The receiver and the transmitter are both tuned to different frequencies, hence they will not work together. The crystals only work at the allocated bands in their respective frequencies. Your receiver is tuned to work only within the 27Mhz frequency range so sticking a 40Mhz crystal in will not change it's tuning, it just won't work.

Furthermore, you cannot open up a receiver or transmitter to retune the pots inside to whatever frequency you wish, as they will only allow whatever the intended frequency range the equipment was designed for...that is done to comply with respective legislation from whatever country it is to be sold or operated in.

The only universal part of the radio kit is the servo's, as they usually come fitted with the same plugs for 27, 35 & 40 Mhz bands (providing all the radio kit is the same make)

You can get 40 Mhz receivers cheap on ebay, so why not bag one on there.

Hope that helps

Regards........Mark.
