Sub Paint Job

Well I've just about finished the Seawolf - The instructions say to paint the model then do the ballasting - I think I'll do it the other way round and give the sub a couple of days to dry out thoroughly before painting. On most of the pictures of the Seawolf I don't seem to spot the air valve on the top deck. Is it essential to fit it or do most folk leave it off - after all a quick check in the WTC will show any water ingress - I can't see that by blowing in the valve would show any slight air leak anyway - but I'd appreciate comments on this one......

Thanks

Ian

hi ian , i believe the valve not only allowsfor checks for leaks but also gives the model a slight positive buoyancy.essential in its function

You should to the final balasting after painting, which adds weight (depending on how many coats and type of paint you use) to the sub. So if you do any ballasting before painting, just make sure you don't stick any weights permanent, as you may want to take some off when the paints done.

Thanks Chris and Ramesh - good points - I'll install the valve tomorrow and then only glue half the weights in and make the others temporary until after painting.

Thanks a lot guys.
