Hi All,

Anyone on here built the Heller 1/100th VICTORY?

I've just started and after 20 hours have been mostly painting the outside of the hull. ( Bottoms decks in, gunports on).

Any tales of woe about this model?

Firstly welcome to the Scale Models forum. I hope that someone can help you with your question and help you along your way with your model.

I'm afraid the only help I can give is to refer you to the photographs in the gallery which may help you with some of the detail points.

Hi Jim,

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the model.

Two items spring to mind on the kit:

1/ All the decks could do with a little reduction on the width, not more than 2mm per side. This will help with getting the decks into place.

2/ Refers to the rigging of the model, so a couple or weeks or so down the line. You might like to get hold of the book Anatomy of the Ship Victory, by John McKAy and published by Conway Maritime, or try the local library. This excellent book will give more information. Just keep checking the tie down points and watch the standing/running rigging. Instructions on the kit may have been upgraded, but if I remember correctly there was some deviation from scale practice. I

When doing the rigging dont ude the suppled thread it collects dust like no ones buisiness use fishing line (much easier as well)

One other point this time on paintwork, and I hope it is not too late.

Do not paint it in trainer yellow as the kit instructions suggest, beter colour is a tan colour, Humbnrol do it but not sure of the number. Perhaps squiffy can help out here.

Yes really good point the trainer yellow makes it look like a bee the proper colour is much more of a tan as chris sugests

Look at the photo's of the Victory in the Gallery for an accurate colour match.

It is, and was, closer to Yellow than Tan but not a bright Yellow.
More of a Buff.

Sure, i'll sort out the code in the morning!

Ive seen mutliple victory models with bright yellow sides, looks really iffy! Also good tip with the fishing wire...i spray mine black and then mist with burnt umber, gives a great "old rope" feeling!
