Hi Alan, it's wonderful to see such superb model enginering. Thanks for showing it to us. I look forward to your next post.

I have a question: Will it need a flywheel? The Mammod cylinders a single acting and I wondered if a flywheel would be needed in order for it to run smoothly.
Cheers
Tom

Thanks!

The next post will probably be of some of the on the bench trials of the boiler build.

I'm actually using the PPS upgrade cylinders for this loco. These are Double acting and sold as an upgrade for the mamod loco. As they are double acting they are self starting and don't need a flywheel.

Cheers Alan, I wondered how it would run... now I know.
I'm the proud owner of 2 Hornby OO Live Steam locos and the tiny double acting cylinders on them are a treat to watch (and listen to!).

If you have 2 mins to spare, you can watch my old Mallard vid here:
YouTube - More live steam....

The layout has changed somewhat in the more recent ones. It's nearly on par with your engineering quality . < big joke!

I just hope my loco runs as sweetly as your Mallard!

Problem with Mamods, you never really get slow speed fine control, even with gas firing and upgraded cylinders, it seems to be all or nothing, so hopefully a few bits of rolling stock and a nicely level track it should be happy!

Hi Alan, I have sent you a message but it doesn't show that it's been sent so Here's the content;

After a long trawl through my old backnumbers I could only find articles on dioramas of narrow gauge as a whole, and not individual build articles and what few there were, only covered N, OO, and O.

However, there is a company based in Doncaster who specialise in 0-4-0 narrow gauge,but they work in SM32/SM45 and G scale live steam, gas fired, and radio control.

Company is;
Roundhouse Engineering Co.ltd.,
Unit 6-9, Churchill Business Park,
Churchill Road,
Wheatley,
Doncaster DN1 2TF.
tel;01302 328035

Sorry to have taken a while but a visit to Madrid was not to be missed!
Your project's looking very good...
All the best...jules

Hi linebacker,

Thanks for searching through those back issues! I'm familiar with Roundhouse Locos, they are very nicely made but quite expensive, unfortunately the prices of their home builder parts don't offer much of a reduction on the price of a ready to run loco either.

Cheers,

Alan
