I don't normally prime my kits but have decided to start to try and give my builds a better finish. I have just sprayed my leopard tank with a can. It's by a company called "streetwise". I am just pleased I sprayed it in the workshop at work. I have never used such a smelly primer and I used to spray cars. It sprayed nice and gave a nice finish. Is there any rattle can primers that are fairly low odour?

I don't know about low odour, but Wilkinsons is cheap and good but does smell a bit. However, maybe less than your current choice.

Thanks. Might try Wilkos next time. I sprayed the sprues in the workshop and put them in the restroom to dry cos the heater was on in there. It was still smelling 2 days later. Good job no one else was at work over the weekend!

Thanks Peter. I will add that to the list and have a spray off when I get a few, haha. Went to the local service station a couple of days ago and they had primer but at £8.99 a can it can stay on their shelf.

I don't know what paint system you use, but for my Tamiya lacquers TS range I use Tamiya Fine Surface Primer ("for plastic and metal"). It covers well and gives a very uniform matt finish. It doesn't smell too much. A quick spray in my garage is mostly gone after about an hour. £4.99 for 100 ml spray can. 180 ml size also available.

I also use Halford's primer (grey but probably also available in a few other colours). Also very good, and I know from experience it sticks like you-know-what.

Halford's acrylic primer is the best in my opinion. Quick drying, not much odour and a very good base for a wide range of finishes.

As far as I know Paul there's no such thing as low odour primer in rattle cans.
Pound land do a dark grey primer stinks to high heaven but it sticks to any thing and goes down flat

I used to go into my cellar to do this, or if it was dry and calm, out in the garden! It really does stink, but the finish is superb. I've since been converted to Stynylrez, which, for my money, is the first primer that is as good as the rattlecan stuff, without the smell and ridiculous wastage!
