    Finally...hello from me

    A belated hello and introduction : )

My main interest, as you've probably already gathered from my avatar and username, is WWII military gliders. My Dad served with the Glider Pilot Regiment during the war and took part in the Normandy landings and later the tragic battle of Arnhem (of 'A Bridge Too Far' fame). Incidently, after the war, Dad became a professional model ship builder with clients as diverse as the Admiralty and Anglia Television (one of his creations was offered as a prize on the rather naff 1970's quiz show, 'Sale of The Century').

So, my modelling interests - quite varied but all relating to this WWII glider thing that's become such a big part of my life. Having recently moved to Lincolnshire and with a ton of stuff still to be done on the home front, most of my projects are in the planning stage as I write but here's what's on the cards or *is* being assembled at the moment:

Two 1/6th scale action figures which are currently being given the kit-bash treatment. Does anyone else here do 1/6th figures??

1/6th scale glider cockpit - scratch-built using as many materials as possible that were used on the real thing - if you see me here asking for odd materials or needing help with resin casting or vac-forming then it's probably for this project. I also have enough original parts to make a 1/1 scale cockpit but that's another story!.

Large(ish) models of all the gliders used by the British during WWII - these are actually designed for R/C flying but I'll be making mine as static exhibits....I think.

Similar plans to the above but 1/72nd scale kits this time - I'll be scratch-building those gliders that were never kitted.

So there ya go, that's me in a nutshell....all wings and no engines!

Hi Silentwings and welcome to the forum.

You certainly have an interest in an unusual area of modelling, I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures of what you do.

As for the 1/6th figures have you had a look at the latest chineese 'Action Man' type of figures from Dragon? The dolls themselves may not be of any use to you but the accessories are very well made and could be worth looking into for you. I am incorporating a couple of figures into a 1/6th boat model and the amount of accessories available is amazing.

There are a lot of sellers on Ebay dealing with this stuff so there are plently available.

Thanks for the welcome my friend.

You're dead right - military gliders is a bit of an unusual specialisation!. For a very long time, early British Jets and unorthodox WWII German aircraft was more my thing, it wasn't until the old man passed away that the glider bug bit deep.

I'm really looking forward to getting started with my projects and I can't wait to share with you guys some of my experiences and perhaps a few build photos.

My 1/6th scale figures are a blend of Dragon, BBi and other manufacturers parts. They are without doubt a hi-tech version of the old 'Action Man' but really the scale is the only thing that's the same. To anyone who hasn't seen the amazing quality of this modern 1/6th scale stuff, here's a couple of photos of what they look like when they've been kit-bashed well and had weathering added

***NOTE*** this figure is NOT one of mine.

    All the Best.....Andy
