      Greetings from Pakistan.

I live and work in Pakistan, writing in Pak papers as a political commentator and analyst and also working as a management consultant in the NGO sector, principally dealing with health and education. I am also a lifelong modeller, almost exclusively aircraft, mostly prop driven, mostly 1/72 or 1/48.

Modelling in Pakistan has its ups and downs, mostly associated with heat dust and humidity, and the ever present problem of missing bits and getting fresh kits. Not to mention paint pots that dry out in 120 degree summers and the complete unavailability of decent enamel thinners. But models do get built, more in the cool season that has just started and lasts thro to the end of March, than the hot.

Will try to drop in and put my two-pennorth here and there.

Welcome Chris. I enjoyed the pics. The heat and humidity obviously aren't so bad - that model of Johnny Johnson's Spitfire with engine exposed looks fabulous! And what's that dinky little red and white number?

Nice models Chris, welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing some of your models with us. Nice jobs under not the best of conditions. I like the cockpit detail on the 109 particularly and the engine detail on Johnny Johnsons Spit.

The dinky red and white thing is the A-model Gee Bee racer in 1/72...an absolute dog to build. Rigging wires are surgical steel.

JEJ is the ICM kit, 1/48, with some scratchbuilding of engine plumbing and wiring.

      Hi Chris.

NEVER KNOCK THE WEATHER, unless you live in the UK, where I blinked and missed the summer this year.

As for the models they look great, but as for paint have you thought of using artist’s acrylic paint in tubes. Being thicker they need thinning with a little water prior to use, but it might solve the no thinners problem. Also being artists stuff you tend to find it more available than model stuff. The plus side as no air in the tube, they don’t dry out the same as pots, and you can get loads of colours.

I know artists acrylic paint is not the norm to use, but sometimes the not normal works better than the normal, pending circumstances.

Not thought of that Don...good idea. Have got a load of White Ensign paints on the way...they are said to be pretty good. I find that some paints dry out quicker than others...Humbrol last pretty well, but Lifecolor do not, for instance. I tried using an airbrush here a few years back but gave up as the paint was drying before it hit the plastic, so brush-finish everything these days. It is also difficult to get decent thinners here...and you cannot airfreight them.
