Greetings to all

Just thought I'd introduce myself as a new member of this forum.
When I was younger I was fanatically involved in building and flying scale model aircraft, then I got a job managing a model shop, never take up your hobby as a job! After being involved with models all day I lost all interest in building them in my spare time. Consequently I have had nothing to do with the model field for many years, but now that I am retired I feel the old interest stirring! So I thought I'd join this forum to see if I can catch up with the scale model world again!
I look forward to reading all your interesting posts!

Hello Ivanhoe Welcome to the site and welcome back to the Hobby.

I am sure you have built plenty of interesting models in your time so any thoughts or ideas you may have please share them with us. Pics of your models - present or past - are more than welcome.

We do have a good crowd on here and some excellent articles on scale subjects to choose from or even just browse at and drool over. Take Grahame's SE5-A for instance in the under construction thread. Plenty enough to whet your appetite & get you back into the Hobby !!

If you get stuck - we don't bite so please feel free to ask.

Regards.......Mark

A big welcome Ivanhoe, running a model shop is no easy task,I had my own model shop for 14 years and it was hard but rewarding work, unlike yourself I managed to maintain the interest but I can understand the busmans holiday aspect to things ! traditional model shops are rare on the ground these days,if you live near one then please patronise it because they need all the business they can get to survive.
I bet that you will be reaching for some tools soon to build a model of your choice ? we have some diverse and extraordinary skills here on a wide variety of model building subjects.
I hope that you will feel at home.

Hi Ivanhoe and a warm welcome to the forum. Always interesting to have comments from someone in the business and thier views on the ay the modelling world has changed over the years. My only claim in that direction was working in a model shop for a Saturday job as a teenager but what a brilliant time I had of doing it. I used to look forward to going to work and the atmosphere around Christmas was something I will always remember.

The shop had pushbikes downstairs run by the "Old Man" and toys and models upstairs run by the son. I would work where I was needed and I loved either side of the business. Fantastic memories. Needless to say the last time I looked a couple of years ago the place had closed down.

Welcome Ivanhoe! Do enjoy your stay. As was mentioned above, hobby shops are a very rarity even in the states these days so its great to have your point of view.
