Greetings from OZ

Hello everyone,

I came accross this forum only recently and have decided to join. I reside in Bendigo which is in central Victoria, Australia and am now retired after serving 27 years in the Army (Royal Australian Survey Corps) and a few years having my own business.

I'm married fo the second time since 2004 and between Deb and I we have six lovely grown-up children ages 24-31 and one very delightfull little grand-daughter now almost three months old. This family will grow of course as 'significant others' join the throng as four others already have.

Modelling wise I'm into Aussie model trains, starting in HO in the eighties, turning to N scale early nineties. As a youngster I was into plastic models and had a large collection of Airfix, Revell and Matchbox kits. About 3-4 years ago I 'discovered' White Ensign Models, in particular their 'Narrow Seas' range of MTBs, MGBs and PT Boats. I purchased my first little 350 scale kit of MGB 75 and since then I have been on THE most amazing trip all around the world researching, making contact with veterans and other modellers in no less the 16 countries.

I started doing the quite tiny 600 scale models from PT Dockyard who has a HUGE range and a few models from Skytrex and SDD (Stronghold Miniatures). I have grand plans for a number of 72nd scale plastic models and conversions, but the really exciting thing for me has come in the form of card models.

My plan with these is to produce a range of models, predominantly in 144th scale, mainly thanks to WEM who have roduced quite nice guns in this scale. I am also foraying into doing some boats in 72nd scale and I'm even 'tinkering' with some in 35th scale!!!

I just tried attaching a photo of some models in progress, but my pics are just outside the KB limit. To those of you who may be interested in seeing some pics, may I direct you to

Aussie Modeller International index page

Go to 'Whats New', then scroll down to 'Sunday 03 March 2008'. There you will see Roger's card model ships.

I have lots of conversions in mind, but for now I'm still very much in the 'tinkering' phase experimenting with card thicknesses and ifferent versions of some boats to see what I am able to achieve etc. In the meantime you can check out 'Coastal Forces in Paper' whose models I am utilising for this project, along with some others I have found from various sources.

Whew! enough waffling for now I think. I am including my e-mail address and phone number here if anyone would like to get in touch personally.

Hi Roger
Welcome from U.K. - I had a look at your card models quite impressive! re-HMS Campbeltown as modified for the St Nazaire operation; I watched the film the other week.
