Coming out the closet!!

Hi all....I have just got back into model making since i was little and is now 29 years of age! I am looking to build and paint plastic kits to a better quality as i have now in older age a steadier hand and more patience. I am looking to get some good advice for painting, especially weathering effects as i am starting to try my hand at WW2 vehicles having only done WW2 aicraft! Any good weathering effect advice and tips for first timers would be great as i am soon to start a 1/35 US M16 half-track for my brother, and would like it to have a authentic look! Any reply's will be grateful.
Thanks Adam

Hi Adam, welcome to the forum and welcome back to modelling. I'm afraid there is not a quick answer to your questions as they are so all encompassing but to start with I would suggest that you put weathering into the search facility here on the main page and read through all the posts that we have put up about it over the years.

To start with I would practise and learn about basic washes and dry brushing. Between the two you can emphasise shadows and highlights and make a dramatic improvement on any model. Master those and you are well on your way! Then you can progress to shading, paint chips, rust, dirt and grime and no end of other techniques but with simple washes and dry brushing you are making a major leap into weathering techniques.
