Colwyn Bay RC Car Racing Club? (North Wales)

Hi Folks!
There were talks about BRCA looking to set up a RC Race Track within Eirias Park in Colwyn Bay about 2 years ago, but it seems that the project never took off.
Now a new RC Modelling shop just opened 4 weeks ago in Rhos-on-Sea on the promenade, at the end of Penrhyn Avenue. I talked with the owner yesterday about Eirias Park, and he is interested in approaching the Council to revive the project, and setup a local Club.
If anyone living in the area of Colwyn Bay / Rhyl / Llandudno is interested in supporting this, please drop a post here. I would like to gauge how much interest can be raised. We need to convince the council there is a case for this.

Cheers!

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the news on this one, I was not aware that there was a new shop open in Rhos On Sea either, I will have a pop in there over the next couple of days to have a look. I will certainly add my support to this one.

I knew the owner of the previous shop in Penrhyn Bay very well but he sadly died a couple of years ago. I had known him since 1979. I often wondered what happened to all his stock, not sure if it was sold off, or if his son or one of the other guys that used to work in the shop, may have bought it out.

I am not sure if their campaign for the new track is being done in conjunction with the one being run by Hazel Cleverely as she was trying to get one set up under the Dan's Den project. (Named after her son who died in the tragic shed fire there, not sure if you know the story)

Either way it has certainly got to be worth supporting as there are quite a few people in this area with r/c cars so got to be a good thing all round really.

Regards.......Mark

I think it would be worth getting Hazel and the shop owner in touch on this one.
From the Council's point of view, this project would be more interesting if it feedbacks on (1) local youth (2) local economy. With a shop supporting the project we would have more flesh on the bone.
If you have Hazel's contact details, why not try to let her know about the shop so maybe she can pay a visit?

Apart from that, would you roughly know how many people would be interested in our area by the formation of a club?
I will go to the shop myself again early next week to probe what is the owner's position. Maybe we could meet up there?

Hi again!
I talked to Hazel today and she will get in touch with the shop owner.
As it turns out, Hazel already bought 6 racing cars for Dan's Den, but she could not find anyone to run the activity. She says that she could easily book a yard one evening a night for this club.
we could make some portable props in the early days to quickly setup a track in this yard.

This sounds like a good idea to me, I live in bangor and have been looking for somewhere to race. I used to race 1/10 saloons down south before i moved. Does anyone know of any other tracks close?
