| Barry,
I couldn't agree more and I have said the exact same to more sellers than I care to remember.
But of course the problem is that Ebay actively encourage this tactic and even suggest to Power Sellers that they should leave feedback "In Bulk" only for buyers who have left it as it is easier for them to manage!!
Not surprising as it is the sellers who provide Ebay with thier income so it is the sellers that get the support.
I now refuse point blank to leave feedback on a seller until I receive it but it makes a mockery of the whole system. The last bozo I dealt with sold me a set of transfers for three pounds plus one pound recorded delivery. I always pay by check the day the auction ends. It arrived five weeks later after three ignored e-mails by second class post so I gave him negative feedback. I got the same. Why? for nothing else than pure retaliation.
Ebay is going to continue to suffer intil it starts to offer protection for buyers and to me the only way I see this improving is if they force sellers to leave feedback first. That one action will completely change the way some of the aggressive and arrogant sellers behave and reinstate some credibility to the feedback system. |

I was burned so bad I closed my account. I had no bad feedback and heaps of credits with them as a seller and buyer about a year ago. I was browsing late one night for an mp3 player for my sick mumin hospital and saw an auction about to close at a very low price. I had a quick look at the ad and saw it was a fairly big shop add, so it must be OK or sleezbay wouldn'y allow it to exist. I bid a few bucks and won only to find that the 'insurance' and postage was around $90!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a con. He aparently does that regularly to trick people. Tiny sale prices with no reserve and an enormous postage. I had about 9 or 10 emails to and from ebay's complaints dept and the end result was that they don't set a fee for postage and leave it up to the seller. "You must read the entire add!!!' ( they didn't give a stuff)
If this guys (klugshop I think it was) customers read it, they'd never buy from him. Ebay refused to even reprimand him and wouldn't allow me to cancell the deal, si I decided to cancell my account without buying his rip off item.
Be warned, ebay sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope they do go broke.
My 2c worth.

| Magpie,
If you check out this guy you will see that he is no longer registered and he has a horrendous feedback record.
As long as Ebay continue to ignore thier responsibilities to buyers and allow this sort of thing to happen in thier name they deserve to go bust.
Any other company have fair trading laws to comply with but Ebay seem to have opened the door to every con artist going who know that they can scam anyone and get away with it.
As far as I am concerned Ebay are criminally negligent and should be prosecuted as such.
I really feel though for the likes of Squiffy who are sinmply trying to make a living out of it all and who is providing an excellent range of products and superb back up and service. Unfortunately he is becoming more and more of a minority swamped by the thieves that Ebay continue to harbour. |

| i have only been ripped off once on fleabay.
Bought a heng long tank from a german shop. I had already been warned about the shoddy nature of heng long stuff, but chose ignore it due to the silly price. So i purchased then realising he only took imo's, no paypal and a £12 surcharge if you paid by cheque. Either way i ended up paying almost double the auction price in fee's via postage and imo fee.
When the tank arrived it didnt work.
to cut a long story short i ended up claiming from ebays buyer protection scheme. They coffed up £42.00 and i sold the parts from the heng long on fleabay again.....now heres the wierd bit....I ended up making a profit!!! |

| Tiger, that is so funny ! but this is so typical of the system.
When I first started to use E-bay it was to sell a few bits and bobs to fellow collectors,it was fun,but then E-bay seemed to prefer people to have shops there and this power selling craze set in,that is fine as long as a quality service is given but from my own personal experience they just take your money, throw the stuff into a jiffy bag without even thinking about the consequences of heavy mail thumped on top,and then you get a bag of bits the other end, this has happened to me twice recently and I am now having reservations about buying stuff on-line,the thing is these people know that by adding extra packing that means less profits as they would need to pay more on postage,as E-bay leave the postage/packing costs to the customer, some firms as we know take advantage of this by making a profit from it with the bare minimum in terms of packing.
Also I am not overly impressed with their claims system either,if you pay by Pay-pal then they refer you to them for the claim procedure,in other words passing the book, they own Pay-pal anyway but do not like people to know that.
All of this smacks of greed that hides behind a too complex flustrating jungle of a site map, which seems to lead you back to where you started from, they are clearly not beyond the law as they seem to think, even their blase attitude comes over on the Watchdog programmes, they will not start any help lines because they know that will cost them money.
Admittedly MercExchange have left it late in the day to lay claim to the use of their original system, some say that they did this stalling knowing that more money for compensation would be available, but if the law says that they are entitled to any compensation, then this will finish E-bay and their glossy offices,it is a bitter business dog eat dog.
But without the customers they would be lost,to gain faith again they need to think carefully about the future of the on-line auction system and re-structure it to assist rather than hinder the customer, lets start with making feedback effective from stage one ie the vendor must leave feedback first, also those that solicit for feedback with these blackmail techniques be banned, the genuine feedback is all that we have to go on as towards the integrity of the business or individual,so lets make it workable from the start.

| Barry,
That's it in a nutshell. The whole system would be vastly improved and return buyers to a level of confidence if the rule was that Sellers had to leave feedback first.
Until they address that I am certain that they will continue to decline as more and more buyers get thier fingers burned and stop buying. |

| ***RJW,Would you please let your friend know that the site is not taking usernames for some reason,I have been attempting to get on all day to no avail ? as there is no way of contacting anyone there for assistance perhaps you can let him know please ? I think that it would certainly benefit from a contact e-mail address to reach a real live person, something that E-bay do not do.
If you can please pass on this message that would be great.
Thank you. Quote: |
