Scale-Models to the rescue.

We had an enquiry today, from a company who have been commissioned to build an half scale Supermarine S6B racing seaplane, this will go into the Calshot Activity centre on display,Calshot was the place where this famous aircraft ( from which the Spitfire was developed ) first flew.
Within a few hours the required detailed drawings and cross sections were winging their way across the internet to the company.
I have requested some progress pictures of this very interesting project.

i think thanks should go to AirshipsfNflyingboats as without him i doubt scale-models would have come up in their search...and that kinda thing is his area!!!!

Not quite correct RJW,the enquiry came via an article I did on the racing seaplanes, not bothered about any mentions as long as the drawings do the job intended.
The company have promised a photograph on completion of the Supermarine S.6B half scale replica.

Wonder what happened to the flying replica that was based at Thorpe Water Park. It did crash but the bits might have been a good start for a project like the Calshot replica. PS , how do I post a picture if I dont know the URL ? I could before but something has changed.

Duncan, very sad one this, the replica flying S.5 G-BDFF was taken to Bodmin for a rebuild by its new owner a Mr Hosie, when I visited Bodmin during 1980 he was so full of enthusiasm for his new aircraft,on 23rd September 1982 whilst on a test flight at Mylor,Cornwall the aircraft broke up in the air killing Mr Hosie, the wreckage what was left of it was taken to the AAIB at Farnborough.
And so what started out as an ambitious project ended in disaster.

Ah, that is so sad. I`m sorry it ended that way and that Mr Hosie died. I thought that there had been a minor crash but had no idea it was fatal. Thanks for the info.
