I really hope Airfix succeeds. I think they are right to go the licensing route to get kids interested. imho one of the reasons kids don't make kits anymore is not just because of the lure of Playstation (although that is a huge factor), but because when I was a kid (born in '66) we were still fed a film diet of Battle of Britain, 633 Squadron, Sands of Iwo Jima, Tora Tora Tora, etc. and read comics like "Battle". Our grandads (fathers in some cases) were servicemen - so it was all more direct and exciting. Building Airfix kits gave us a link to the exciting exploits of those films. I had Corsairs, Zeros, Spits hung up all over my ceiling.
What we need (he said with tongue planted firmly in cheek) is a good, juicy war close to home, so the kids can get a connection with the kits they might build.

So Airfix is looking to licensing deals - making models of popular TV and film characters - to grab the attention of today's youngsters.
This is good news, I would love to get my son in to modeling or something more creative than simply playing on his computer, wii, xbox, ps2, psp, gameboy, DS etc etc he just moves from one to another.
