calculating scale

Hello all
Can anyone tell me if they know a way to calculate the scale of a dolls' house? I have acquired a very large vintage one and suspect that it may be larger that 1/12th.

The floor size of the rooms is 16ins by 10 1/2 ins, which is bigger than any other I have seen.

I'd be grateful for any guidance
Many thanks
Kingston

hello and welcome kingstone, this topic of scale has come up before, have a look HERE .

as a general rule of thumb dolls house`s are either 1/12 or 1/24 th scale. i beleive there are some odd sizes such as 1/16 scale also. in the world of dolls houses ( just like real houses) the room sizes dont really mean much it`s really the door size.

i`m currently helping my wife build a dolls house, and giving her help with paint choice, fittings constructioon etc.

i`m hoping to get some pics up soon.

Adz..

One way Kingston is to use a known size,ie a door for example to calculate the scale, but as Adz says I will be surprised if it is anything but a standard dolls house scale.

Thank you, Adzam
That was useful - it seems I am right about using door size as my guide.

Thanks for this, too.
I hope you are right, but until I actually go and collect this 'treasure', I am not even sure if it is commercially made, or home made. If its the latter, it's certainly very well done if the photos are anything to go by.

Hopefully is is a very large commercially built one, though I have looked for similar models in various catalogues and web-sites and not found anything.

I'll keep you all posted.

Multply the figures by 12 i.e 12*16 =192 16ft which is Ok for a big room
