what to do with 23,000 spare hours !

just though i would share with you a sort of photo diary that chronicles a few stages over the last 7 months of my work.......

so it all starts here, with a big area of land, actually 322 square meters.....

so several weeks worth of design work and research starts, eventually from this a drawing is produced of the planned development.....once agreed the construction begins...........

firstly the infrastructure goes in, concrete basins for water ( the river thames ), also the ductwork for cables and wiring, along with drains and recirculation pipework for water filters, 128 tonnes of concrete in all.....

whilst work is being undertaken on site a small team of 6 are busy building the display to go on the new ' model landscape'....
all models are made with standard parts that you can get in the sets in the toy shops....each is built having being planned out and draughted by hand, each building has a plan and footprint to ensure it relates to the buildings around it.... town planning in minature !- scale is usually 1 to 20......
buildings are also planned to include moving features and lighting ...

once the major sections of concrete and infrastructure are in place then the secondary wiring for the 160 working streetlamps and all internal building lighting goes in, also the signal cables for the moving cars and buses and trucks are laid....... once this is done the final model ' asphalt' surface goes down, its a granulated rubber type surface...... but it looks great,

once the surface is cured models can start to be installed - wired up and bolted down....

by now the construction of iconic models are well underway, if not yet complete...... these can be big !- this is a virtually completed LLoyds building !

once these buildings are completed, lighting is tested....

once tested it can be lifted into place, these models are nearly 6m tall so we needed a crane to help with the lifting process !

once installed the whole thing starts to ocme together quickly, then the details can be added, little figures, bus stops, postboxes and all the associated stuff......

and after adding 28 tonnes of topsoil, 6 skilled landscapers, mini plants and trees and finally after a little time 'debugging' we have a fully working miniland london, with operational models of tower bridge, a london underground, a docklands light railway, a fully operational waterloo station with eurostar terminal and commuter trains, cars busses and trucks moving around, working fountains in trafalgar square and even the congestion charge and speed cameras !

if you are interested come take a closer look..... for more details see www.legoland.co.uk

Thanks for that Guy it's amazing to see the planing that goes in to it but I guess this post is just the tip of the iceberg, the finished thing is a credit to you and all those that take part in such a project.

Guy that is just awsome !! how about a tip for you though
seeing as a house is approx £225,000 why dont you build one from lego im sure it would be a success as the owners can do structural alterations at their whim lol

Guy,we are deeply honoured to have you here and depite your work you can always find the time to share your modelling with us,these models are works of art in themselves, you really are a professional in your own field,I noticed the extractor fan flexi tubes in the build picture no doubt to extract the fumes from the volitile adhesive ( Mythl Keytone I guess ? ) without that precaution you would be high on the stuff.Very impressive set up.

How about a Meccano De Havilland Dragon Rapide flying over Guy ? Elevon foot wingspan made seven years ago for an exhibition, kept me busy for 9 months.
