It is a bit like these pre-made masks for models ? who wants to stick on tiny masks when you can easily make them from masking tape ? and think of the extra cost as well,it is taking away basic skills to trim and cut,get stuck in and improvise it is much more fun,and you learn new skills along the way.
This forum is always a constant source of inspiration to both newcomers and those with more experience regarding things we learn by discussion and trial and error,who needs nandy pandy masks anyway !

Sorry guys but pop into a "works " shop and all these are o offer for pence i have even purchased a metallic pastel stick which will add huge depth to burner cans !!! pay a visit to see what you can pick up

I think it's just another set of tools for your modeling toolbox to enable you to achieve a better end result, these kind of items are in addition to other techniques.

I'm gonna try the marmite out aswell...

im not putting the use of these products down..its the out and out commercialism of the hobby i despair at.. i mean 2 jars of mud pigment @ approx £12..MUD for crying out loud..and people do buy it..a Full set of "specially" designed oil colours for modellers @ approx.£30 for a dozen tubes of oil paint..with the primary and tetiary colours you can mix any shade you need..i get my oilpaint from a local art store @ £1 a tube..i think i have eight or nine colours including black and white..i remember this used to be a pocket money hobby....now you can spend serious money on a kit and all the accoutrements..i mean £5.99 for a soot black weathering stick.. you can get a nice SET of pastels for 6 quid.i cant shake the feeling that us modellers are being fleeced. just because of its popularity/niche market,the demographic has definatly changed over the years..not so many youngsters taking it up..so with most of us being adults with a bit of disposable income[what an incredible missnomer]non of my bloody income has ever been "disposable".prices are pitched to match..with the veritableflood of aftermarket bits out there, i would expect prices to be a little more on the reasonable side..rant over..............!peace..

Marty's right the model community are being sold a pup !! unfortunately the manufactures dont realise that we as modellers look at no end of alternatives to do the job and therefore do not partake of their silly £30.00 offerings

I know what you mean Marty. I have recently bought a few pots of Pigment just to have a play with but at the end of the day they were expensive and they are basically no more than the old powder paint we all used at school when we were kids.

In fact I made caulking for my boat with Resin 'W' mixed with black powder paint from an art shop and I got a huge tube of the stuff which cost me a couple of quid and will last me a lifetime.

I do like dipping my feet into new things and if you can keep your feet firmly on the ground and use them in conjunction with the old imagination and the scrap box then you have the best of both worlds. I have to admit that if I was to buy a set of powder paints to mix up my own pigments I would A) Make such a god awfull mess that I would be cleaning up for days and B) Have enough pigments to paint the side of a house.

So yes I paid over the odds for the few pots I bought but I still consider them a usefull buy for my own rate of use.
