Hi all. Just finished the first & Second part of a 3 part build. This is a CLT dolly, which means CONTAINER LOAD TRAILER dolly system. Since I couldn't find a 30' commercial container I decided to go ahead and scratchbuild using some pics from off the net. This unit will be coupled onto a prime mover a modified Hemtt which I am about to start on right now. Later these two will be placed on a long dio with a special theme I have in mind. anyway here are pics of the first part of a three part build.
The container is about 30 feet in 1/35 scale, at least according to the scale calculator that I used. I also had to kitbashed the small engine generators mounted on the dollies as I couldn't find one that looked right. So I just went into my misc. box and put something together that came close to the real ones. There are many variations on the CLT dolly so I tried to copy the real ones as close as possible with some minor variations.
The CLT dolly is being pulled by a Hemtt variant called the EPP which is suppose to haul Patriot missile laucher tubes. I found a pic of this when I was searching the net to find something different to model. Now, since I wanted to model both the CLT and a Hemtt vehicle I wanted something different. So I decided to put these two together. It probably doesnt' look protypical together but what the hell. In Iraq, everthing is possible, right
Hope you like the pics.
Although this container is unusual in being a side loader I take it the system can be used on any standard 20 foot or 40 foot containers?
Obviously the versatility of using standard containers has many advantages as regards shipping but I had never thought of the requirement for a system of handling the boxes without the use of cranes. Clever stuff.
The model is amazing and the diorama's that you could create with such a peice of equipment are endless. I love the tractor unit with, once again, your armour home made plating. Beautiful model.

Thanks for the comment guys. Richard, the system can be used on all standard container. The dollies are ajustable, in real life that is, to handle any length and size containers. Very adaptable system. I think it was developed by the Danish, not sure. Crans are still used in various facilties but it's the transportion that is the key here. These systems were developed ideally for the cargo planes like the C130. The idea is they can be loaded completely with the dollies attached and when they get to their destination they are simply pulled out by another prime mover without any problems. That simple.
There is always the master`s touch, the newspaper & the driver`s gear in the cab, dust, makers name on the tyres, graffiti. Great modelling.
Thanks. Don't forget the cooler, coke cans, bag of ice and the playboy pin up. I'll try and get anothershot of the cab so it's easier to see. Thanks for the candid comment.
