Austin Putilow 1:25 GPM

Starting a new vehicle today.
This is the Russian armoured car that looks so strange that it becomes kind of nice

The kit contains 4 pages of drawings and 8 pages of parts.
The amount of parts are 519.

The kit.

Some history ans the first page of drawings

Parts and some more instructions.

I hope this will be a pleasant build

The wheels......
I have started with the wheels. They seem a bit tricky with the spokes.
So I have been thinking of making some kind of jig to hold the pieces in place to maintain the hub in center.
Will come back to this when I'm there

Cutting out sides and some rings.

That's an interesting model. i like things that look "functional".

I'd be interested to hear how you solve the wheel/spoke problem, never having constructed anything in card myself.

I had some minor troubles figuring how I should make the spokes.
The GPM paper is very thick and the spokeparts are very small, so trying to roll a cylinder with a diameter of 1,5mm was very tricky....I made two of that kind.
Next I did was to get a scan of the spokeparts, Thanks to Peter!! and print on 80g paper. Then I could roll the parts on a 1mm drill and get a nice round spoke

The wheels contains a lot of parts as we can see from the drawing.

To have the center hub stay in place I had to make some kind of jig to hold it steady and level with the outer rim while adding the spokes.

I attached a 4mm wooden rod to a 2mm karton sheet and draw a line for the outer rim so that the distance from center and out should be equal.

Here are all the spokes in place, and you might see the difference in some of the spokes.See this as a test wheel

Next is to put on some paint and dust....
The tiresides was also a new way for me to do wheels.
As we can see from the drawings the sides are built up of 3 parts. They are buttglued to each other. Two are coned and the outer lies level on top.

I'm satisfied with the result of that way to do it.
It seemed a bit tricky at first since the parts are thin and easy to deform.
So I just jumped into it

The top layer are built up of tiny pieces.

Still some left to put on but you get the picture of how it's done.
Thats all I managed today.....

Thanks Fatty!
Papermodels do contain a lot of parts. So the feeling of really building something out of some 2D papersheets and make a 3D model out of it really are present

Still working on wheels...
The second one is ready to have the "tire" mounted

First step is to cut out the ring that will be on the inner side of the tire.
Ring is glued to 0,5mm karton and cutted with the Olfa circle cutter.

The ring is glued in place and the two tiresides are ready to be cutted out.

The two coned parts are cutted and rolled to the right shape

The parts are glued in place

The top piece are cutted out and will be glued on top

The top ring in place

And I used some grinding paper to break the edges. The tire is now ready for the other side, the tire pattern and the paintbox

Working on the frame and suspension.
The pics got really poor....didn't have my digicam so I had to use my phone...

The drive line is finished, not glued together yet to the drive shaft and rear axel.

The two rear suspensions are ready for mounting on the axel.
The exhaust is done and glued to the engine.
Frame is completed.
Now I'm working on the front suspension and axel,
