Building the LAV III

Hi all. Yep, another build in progress. I have not yet completed the cannister for the Patriot build I was doing because I need a particular styrene which I have to buy. So, I decided to jump into a build I've been wanting to do since the Stryker kit came out. The LAV III.
I decided to use the Trumpeter kit instead of waiting for the AFV Club version. I decided it would be better since the kit had inaccuracies I wouldn't pull the hairs outta my hair knowing I was going to cut into it.
I will use the AFV Club kit to build the other variants, if they are not offered anytime soon. So for now, I will content myself with the LAV III, which as been on my list of things to do for this year. The conversion is a lot harder than I had expected. Just looking at the vehicle from afar you would thing there won't be much to change or add. Well, think again. There are quite many small differences, I keep finding more and more. There's been a lot of cursing from my part but when I look at the results so far, it seems it was worth it. So here are some shots of what I've done so far.

The toolbox and the equipment storage. On the side of the equipment storage is some sort of TOW cable mechanism. not sure:

This pic shows the front TOW cable support on the lower hull:

An overview of the left side of the LAV III:

Testing the top hull fittings:

In this pic I'm trying to solder the cages that sits on both sides of the turrent. I tried glue but was very unsuccessful. I gave up and fortunately found an aftermarket cage. So it's on order:

The rest are pics of the turrent I'm working on. View from all sides:

Here are a couple more pics showing the overall look. The barrel will be replace with an accurate one. I still have the back storage compartment, more details and more details. Slowly but surely I will get there:

Here are a couple more small advancements. I'm still waiting for the new turrent cages, Fluted barrel and tire rack mount.
My hand at sewing ties. Yep, like sewing

The finish results mounted. Still have to add two brackets that bends outward

Added the hatch stopper, I don't know the exact word for it:

Add the lights. I raised the light cluster a bit by adding shims underneath to give the raise it off the hull like on the real model and added wires:

Added bolts to represent the area where the wrench was removed. Also added supports for the tow cables:

When you look at the real one you can see where the work all comes from!! What an absolute wealth of detail in one vehicle!

You are doing a superb job though on putting this together and I am sure the finished item is going to look amazing. Thanks for sharing your progress with us, it shows a level of dedication to a project that inspires us all to acheive the best we can possibly make.
