You certainly don't need to use the same manufacturer. You can use an acrylic varnish (like Vallejo) over enamel, lacquer and acrylic paints. The same may not be true of a varnish whose base is "hotter" and may interact with the paint.

Hi
When using Varnish to complete the model, should I use the same manufacturer as the paint on the model? So, for example, if a model is painted in Humbrol enamel, must it be finished with Humbrol varnish? or can I choose a different manufacturer of enamel varnish?(are there many?)
Same goes for acrylics too, if the model is painted in Revell acrylics, can it be finished with Vallejo varnish, say?
Many Thanks
Mark

thanks Steve, that's helpful. I had read somewhere that the humbrol matt varnish can give a yellowing effect, but apparently their Modelcote product doesn't.
