Painting a railway embankment

Hello Everyone

I am now at the stage where i need to paint the railway embankment what my 1/35 Trumpeter loco sits on.

What thoughts do you have regarding the colours to use on the Sleepers, Tracks and the stone ballast.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Dave

Hi Dave!
What sort of scene are you hoping to depict with your Loco?
As a basis I would start off with a dark brown for the sleepers with some black for dirt and grime. The tracks will depend on the use and frequency of traffic. If it is a heavily trafficked area then I would go for dark grey to black for most of the rail with a glossy silver line where the loco wheels pass. A siding may have rusty brown/red oxide rails.
The ballast can vary in colour depending on it's part of the country.
Don't paint ballast when you can buy it ready to use.

I would suggest you search through the model rail forums and web sites. Google is your friend here.
Youtube is very useful as well.
I have found lots of useful hints and tips for modelling from model rail sites.

Good luck and don't forget to post some pictures for us to see.
