I am making a Grumman Martlet MK V - 1/32 scale with invasion stripes and I need to know the correct colours for the camoflage and also the colour of the underside.
Both options in acrylic and enamel would be great.
Hi there
probably a bit late but here goes
Standard F.A.A. scheme:
Extra dark sea grey and dark slate grey over sky (type S).
Depending when, where and by whom your aircraft was built it may have been delivered in a U.S. equivalent scheme:
U.S.sea gray and olive drab over light gray ( U.S.N. non specular gray)
People will debate what exactly these colours actually looked like, you could fill a book with opinions on Sky alone!
There are many paint options. If you don't fancy to much mixing I would reccomend Xtrcrylix acrylics and White Ensign Models Colourcoat enamels. I find Xtracrylix a bit tricky to spray (trial and error thinning,no set proportions seem to work!!) The W.E.M. enamels are superb (they do take a while to dry). Both have a good range of colours.
happy painting
