      Green/grey RAF collours?

I have painted my 1/72 Academy Tempest with the following Humbrol collours, but they don't seem right to me.
bottom =165 medium sea grey wit top 30 dark green and 106 ocean grey.
The problem I see is that on the pix that you lads post of the same collours it seems that top grey has a slight more blue tindge and the green is a slight more ollive.
Did I use the correct collours, or could it be the scale effect messing me about?

Will post a pix taken in natural light.

Hi Theuns,I can't really comment on the greys, you will get a different answer from everybody you ask! 126,165 and 64 seem to crop up a lot. Many consider that Humbrol 30 is a poor match for RAF dark green.
      Cheers

Hi, I'm building the SMER 1/72 Tempest V kit (which is apparently a Heller kit) at the moment and the instructions say 30 for the green 27 sea grey and 26 light grey but a kit review site (smakr) has one done in 30 green 106 ocean grey and 64 light grey underneath. However this page has lots of different options including silver. The Hawker Tempest Page

I will post a pic today and would be very happy with any comment, good or bad :-)
I have read that HU 116 US dark green works a tad better, will have to try it on my SAAF Allo3 , don't want to make a mistake again :-(

Ok , here it is. Taken in natular outside light, note the difference that it has in almost the same conditions!

It was a nice eazy little build, no real issues except for the tail #decal that silvered a bit.Humbrol paints (most likely the wrong collours!) and pastel chalk staining.

I tried something new (for me) , to do the masking for the cammo with "mask all" as it is a small finiky plane. It worked OKish but next time I will work a little faster as the maskoll on the brush tends to stick to the newly aplied maskall and remove it in little strings. Most likely the latex doing so.

The front windshield was a total failure , I glued it in place with normal thin cement, but it foged up 1/2 the thing.Ah well, so we learn!

I might be wrong but i think some of Humbrols RAF WW2 colours are not very accurate. For example, dark green 30 seems too light and dark earth 29 looks too dark.I use Xtracolour enamels as these seem to be more accurate from what ive read about them.I use them for my Luftwaffe models as well.Get mine from Wonderland models off the interweb

Theuns I don't see much wrong with that. I agree with the green,I've seen 116 used a few times. Remember that initially,on the introduction of Ocean Grey a mixed grey equivalent was allowed due to a shortage of the new paint. I don't want to open a can of worms about what these looked like! The official mix was 7:1 Medium Sea Grey and Night. This gives an idea about what it looked like.
