When Louis Bleriot flew across the English channel he put his faith in this little machine, frail as it may look at first she proved that man could bridge the gap between France & England by aeroplane, the machine had no ailerons but relied instead on wing warping, the wing itself twisted around a transverse spar providing more lift on one side and more drag on the other, although crude it worked and was then an early and only answer to mans problem of turning his machine in flight. Also the engines relied on blipping the ignition switch rather than the use of a throttle we know so well today,a tricky operation combined with flying the aeroplane as well.
How we have advanced since these early shaky days, but we must never ever forget these early pioneers of flight who paved the way for the reliability we know and expect today,I often wonder what they would think of todays monsters flying across the atlantic ? I am sure that they would be quite proud of their contribution to mans conquest of the skies.
Bravo Mr Bleriot !
