Beautiful modern day biplanes.

This weekend I had an invite to view some really beautiful biplanes, the only difference was that these gems were built only last year from the original drawings of the Waco aircraft company in America, they are fitted with modern engines, navigational aids and despite the open cockpits the pilot wears heated flying suites and can fly in any weather, the basic airplanes are built exactly as they were back in the golden age of flying back in the 1930's and are hand made and finished to an exceptional high standard,I marvelled at the gloss paintwork where you could see your reflection, the cockpits were fully instrumented with proper control columns and non of those sissy control spectacles ! my guide was a very pretty young lady who really enthused about these new aircraft, saying that she had flown in one a week ago and it was a far cry from the Piper Cherokee she learned to fly in,these are enthusiasts machines to be treasured and above all flown the way aircraft used to handle, take a look at the way they look from the back she said, look at those lines and I could see what she was saying,a few degrees of dihedral gave the Waco a really nice sit especially with those rounded wingtips and that big round radial engine and spatted undercarriage,I was very quickly told how to say Waco ! it is pronounced as 'Wako' it took a while to drag me away from these beauties,I just wanted to push one outside and start it up and fly !! here we have the two basic models, the yellow one is the model YMF-5C which is a three seater, the other cream one is the model YMF-5 a standard two seater, three seat biplanes were fairly common in the thirties as joy riding was then popular.
Now if only I hit the jackpot on the lottery I could buy one,and keep her on my very own bowling green trimmed airstrip, thats a nice thought but it has to be a dream !
My thanks to Lynda at Waco Europe for kindly showing me around these superb machines for inclusion here on scale-models.

The ergonomic cockpit layout, very cosy, you could fly for miles in this practical airplane.

Pronounced "walk-oh" as the registration on the first pic, all yellow one, suggests. Another part of the original Ohio company`s advertising was "Ask any Pilot", I like that.

*** Just what I thought George, someone did a rubber plan that could be easily scaled up to a decent size.

*** How incredible Malcolm ! if I did win then a biplane would be high on my list, someone said to me the other day that the only type of aircraft that would not get out of date is a biplane, how true this is.
Go on buy a ticket, you never know your luck ?

The Photos are a YMF ?
Thair are two simeler 1/3 Waco kits that i know off . one from Germany, one USA.
I could find the manufactura if any one wants it.

When in Florida for Top Gun, Dave Toyer, Neil Tidy, Reg Hinnant and myself went for a ride in this New Standard D25 from 1929 (ish)
Four pasengers + Pilot.

Notice how simeler the wings are to the Waco .

I know the shape well from my Waco SHD-A Small pic atached.

Hi all,

I am building a 1/4 scale Waco YMF-5 from Flugmodellbau Barth Kit. Glad to see more pictures about the Waco here.
