Thanks Charlotte, once I get all of the files off my computer in the den,and then make it compatible by installing Windows XP, will purchase that 4-port hub made by these Netgear people that your dad mentioned,I am not sure if I have a networking card fitted in either ? is there any way that I can check this ?

Yes there is of you go to control pannel then system then on the tabs there should be hardware click on that then go to device manager by clicking on that you should have another pop up giving your hardware that you have installed on you rcomputer then scroll down to network adaptors then click on the + then it should show if you got one installed if it doesnt say network adapters then you havent got one installed

*** Chipset is KM400-XP-16943948,would I need an adaptor to plug both the ethernet and network card via the same socket ? the other computer upstairs needs to have an ethernet card as that was working on the USB when it was on broadband, not so good.
Just trying to get a mental picture for when I get around to doing the complete job.
