Butyrate question ?

Mike Elford from Bromley asks-
Which is the correct adhesive to stick together a Butyrate moulding ?

Well Mike, having tried various adhesives on this material and having tried to pull apart the joint later I found that ordinary Polystyrene cement did the best job,the only drawback with this adhesive is that it takes so long to cure and remains rubbery for at least 12 hours,so be patient and use something like masking tape etc to hold the joint whilst the adhesive sets.
Many model add on sets are made in Butyrate including helicopter shells, the advantage is that when moulded in a clear finish you just need to paint in the non window areas with solid colour.
It is probably possible to use medium cyno but due to the vapour haze this causes the material to go whitish and will make a mess,so called low odour cyno adhesives have been found to be far from satisfactory in adhesion in products such as Butryrate.

just to further add if you do use super glue use an accelerator and this will stop the fogging or just coat the shells in future beforehand that works a treat as well

***Now that is a good idea, the Future must form a barrier between the surfaces, see how we learn here, excellent.
