Grahame,thank you for showing us these vintage pictures of your Demon,she looks lovely,your model suffered what is termed as 'aileron reversal' once you experience this you certainly never ever forget it,the small open gap in the upgoing aileron would certainly have caused more drag on that side with adverse effects as more upgoing aileron is applied,what aggravates the problem is if there is equal amounts of up and down aileron,hence the differential shown on the plan to bring in more up than down,sorry if my explanation carbon copies what you have already pointed out but it should assist beginners who come across this in the future.One solution to adverse aileron yaw is to couple the rudder either electronically or via a Y-lead,this at least allows a tricky design to be flown more easily,the down side if it cannot be disconnected is care on take off with just a stab of rudder applied.
Quite a few things differ in flying models from full size design,another is inbuilt wing slots but there lies another story !
